A missing a tooth can make it hard to chew. Depending on the location of the missing tooth, it can also be embarrassing.

At Platinum Dental Care, we want you to be happy with your teeth again. That means being able to eat and smile like you used to, as we believe your smile should say it all.

When you are missing a tooth, the teeth around it begin to move. As this movement continues, it will become even harder to keep the area clean and chewing comfortably will become increasingly difficult. The tooth opposing the space will also begin to move into the empty space, which could mean you may lose that tooth as well.

Replacing a Missing Tooth

There are several different ways to replace a missing tooth. For decades, a dental bridge has been the best option for replacing a missing tooth. A bridge is permanent, which means you won’t have to worry about it coming out when you take a bite of a sandwich at a restaurant.

We know that eating is one of the most enjoyable things that we do. Sharing meals with friends or family can be some of the most memorable times of our lives. Dr. Ahmed wants you to be able to enjoy those times and not have to worry about keeping your teeth in your mouth.

Making a Bridge

A bridge uses the teeth adjacent to the empty space as support for the artificial tooth. This is just like the bridges that you drive your car over. They have supports on both sides and the bridge in the middle that “floats” in midair.

The way we create the supports for the bridge is to prepare the teeth on either side of the space for crowns. The replacement crown that fits into the empty space is fused to the crowns on each side. This makes one solid 3-unit piece that will then be cemented to the support teeth.

Things to Know about a Bridge

Bridges are a great solution to a missing tooth. There are a couple things that are important to know before you decide to go with a bridge to restore your missing tooth.

It is very important to maintain good hygiene around your bridge by flossing underneath it. This can be difficult if you have limited dexterity as it involves passing a piece of floss underneath the bridge. If you get decay on one of the supporting teeth, then the entire bridge may need to be replaced.

If you would like something to replace your missing tooth or teeth that is permanent but also allows you to brush and floss normally, take a look at dental implants.
